Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1960, Kobayashi Jun studied shakuhachi under Tozan-ryū Master Kawamura Taizan during his university days and decided to pursue the path of shakuhachi as a professional, which continues to do to this day. He is fascinated by rock, jazz, and world folk music, and has been involved in band activities since middle school, and continues to combine composition and performance in a style that is influenced by these activities. He actively collaborates with musicians from other genres, and the number and direction of collaborations is diverse. In addition to composing for Japanese instruments, he has also arranged many game and anime songs for Japanese instruments, with the desire to convey the greatness of traditional instruments to the next generation. He is a member of the Japanese Orchestra Mutsuno, and is currently active in his own band, "Pure Well Right".
